Roger Federer needed wins over # 1 Novak Djokovic and newly crowned #5 in the world Tomas Berdych to capture his 6th Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship Title.
Federer fought back after being a set and break down again Berdych in Saturday final. Federer said after the match.
"I was happy I was able to use momentum, win that second set, and then it was a tough opening period in the third, wasting the Love-40 game on Tomas' first service game," said Federer. "Then saving break points myself. Anything could have happened there.
"Things definitely went my way out here tonight, but I have had a lot tougher matches in the last one and a half years, so this is nice to get a lucky break again."
With this win Federer secures his 78th Tour Level victory and surpass's John McEnroe to hold the number 3 spot on list of all time tour-level victories. However, Federer has a little work to do to catch Jimmy Conners who is the all time leader with 109 tour-level wins.
Later on Saturday Grigor Dimitrov survived a tough and hard fought 3 set match versus South African Kevin Anderson, 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(5) after nearly three hours.
"Belief is the only thing that kept me going today," said Dimitrov, who had been on court till 2:30am the night before topping Andy Murray in the semi-finals. "I didn't think I was going to come back after last night's match. I'm really happy. This title means a lot to me." Dimitrov, who is projected to rise to No. 16 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday, added, "Every match I played was really tough, especially the last three where I played three sets."
The BNP Paribas open or better known as the 5th Slam is up next for both men in Indian Wells Ca.
The BNP Paribas Masters 1000 hosts both the ATP and WTA players for a 2 week event that always proves to be a tournament worth watching.
